SAN DIEGO -- The teams best offensive linemen dropped his helmet to the floor during halftime Saturday evening, threw down his shoulder pads and let his pants slide to the floor, whatever it took for his body to breathe. Sneakers Online Australia Store .Nearby, a group of linebackers and their position coach gathered around a trainers table, sharing insights about the opposing tight end, but few ideas on how to stop him.The head coach then brought his players together in the middle of the room, and they sunk to one knee. Down by 28 points, he urged them to keep playing hard and win the second half. Just as he stepped back to adjourn the meeting, the players emphatically pounded their chests before starting the long walk back to the field. The scene was typical of hundreds of halftime interactions and pep talks that took place last weekend on college campuses across America, only this one had a unique international layer. The University de las Americas Puebla football team crossed the border to take on the University of San Diego Toreros in an exhibition game Saturday evening -- 16 days before the Oakland Raiders and Houston Texans bring the NFL to Mexico City for the first Monday Night Football game outside the U.S.The Aztecas eventually lost to San Diego 49-25 putting a blemish on their undefeated season back home. Coaches and players from both sides learned a lot about the other, and all agreed they benefited from the experience, even if it just means learning from mistakes. Its a good way to measure the level we have over there, and the level over here, said UDLAP wide receiver Robin Israel Gonzalez Carmona, who delivered the play of the night when he scored on a 99-yard touchdown reception in the games closing minutes. There were plenty of other highlights inside 6,000-seat Torero Stadium, where Jim Harbaugh began his head coaching career and turned the program around from 2004 to 2006 before moving on to Stanford, the San Francisco 49ers and now Michigan. On the opening series of the game, San Diego faced a third down near midfield when UDLAP safety Osvaldo Zumalacarregui Taboada blitzed into the backfield and delivered a jaw-rattling sack on quarterback Anthony Lawrence.Suddenly, the Toreros were tightening their chinstraps. They came out and hit, Lawrence said. They were really physical. Thanks to a leaping touchdown catch by Jean Claude Madin Cerezo, the Aztecas managed to keep the score tied 7-7 heading into the second quarter. After a rough stretch of 28 unanswered points, the Aztecas responded to the pleas of head coach Eric Fisher at halftime and outscored the Toreros 10-0 in the third quarter. UDLAP got a safety on an errant snap by the San Diego punt team, and later scored on a sliding touchdown grab by Jose Humberto Noriega Montiel, who finished with 12 catches for 96 yards.Through it all, the team from Mexico never slowed down. Thats what San Diego head coach Dale Lindsey said hell remember most about UDLAP, a private university located in Cholula, Puebla, about 80 miles east of Mexico City. They were much better than our players thought they were going to be, said Lindsey, whose team is 7-1 this season in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision. They really fought. I really had great admiration for them. They never quit. The Aztecas never stopped having fun, either, and their fans never stopped cheering. After his 99-yard touchdown, Gonzalez Carmona looked up from the water cooler, blew kisses to the crowd and took a bow to acknowledge their glee.Gonzalez Carmona said crossing the border to play a U.S. college team is the perfect barometer for Mexican players and exposes weaknesses that usually dont arise against weaker opponents at home. UDLAP is 9-0 this season against teams in its conference, and most of the wins have been one-sided. He added that the differences between the Aztecas and the Toreros werent those of size, speed or athletic ability, but rather discipline and detail. They didnt make mistakes and we did, he said.Indeed, that was the most frustrating part of the game for Fisher, a Kansas City, Missouri, native who began coaching overseas with the Barcelona Dragons of NFL Europe in 2003. He arrived in Mexico City the following year as the athletic director and coach of the American School Foundation, a K-12 private school, and has been in his current position at UDLAP since 2009, amassing a 69-16 record. We havent been hit in the mouth like that for a while, Fisher said after Saturdays game.Like most college coaches, Fisher wants players who are physically strong and mentally tough and who can remember playbooks and recognize opposing defenses. If he cant find them in Mexico, he knows where to find them north of the border. Two of his players, Milton Earls and Jordan Brooks, are from the San Diego suburb of Chula Vista. The idea of playing college football in Mexico never occurred to Earls and Brooks as recently as a couple of years ago.Neither player was heavily recruited out of high school, so they planned to continue playing at the junior-college level. Shortly after their senior seasons, however, they were invited to participate in an all-star game between San Diego-area seniors and the under-19 national team from Mexico.UDLAP had recruiters at the game. Afterward, they invited Earls and Brooks on a recruiting trip.We were kind of iffy about it at first, because it was playing football in another country, but when we went out there to visit, we had a blast, Earls said. They offered us full-ride scholarships the same day we went out.Outside of the usual adjustments college athletes face as freshmen, the biggest challenges for Earls and Jordan have been the language barrier and elevation. UDLAPs home stadium sits at 7,000 feet, about 1,600 feet higher than the University of Colorados. The Aztecas played near sea level Saturday night, but they climbed way up in competition. The Aztecas acquitted themselves well against stout competition, and chances are they will be even more prepared next time. CHARLOTTE, N. Cheap Adidas Superstar .C. -- The Charlotte Bobcats have hired Los Angeles Lakers assistant Steve Clifford to become their new coach. Two people familiar with the situation said Monday that Clifford had agreed to a three-year contact. They spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the announcement has not been made public. Clifford replaces Mike Dunlap, who was fired after going 21-61 in his only season as coach. Clifford has worked as an assistant in New York, Houston, Orlando and Los Angeles, but has never been a head coach at the NBA level. He has worked under both Jeff and Stan Van Gundy. He becomes the sixth coach of the Bobcats since 2006-07. The Bobcats made the move to hire Clifford on Monday, one day before he was slated for a second interview with the Milwaukee Bucks for their coaching vacancy. Clifford came to Los Angeles with Dwight Howard from the Magic and was retained for the 2013-14 season as an assistant coach. However, the Lakers granted him permission to interview with other teams. Prior to joining the Lakers, Clifford spent five seasons with Orlando, working alongside Stan Van Gundy. During that five-year span, the Magic were 259-135 (.657) and reached the NBA Finals in 2009. Clifford also spent four seasons as an assistant with the Rockets under Jeff Van Gundy and three with the Knicks. Jeff Van Gundy, now an NBA broadcaster, said hes known Clifford since they coached together at the Jim Boeheim camp in 1985 in Syracuse, N.Y., and called him "a person with impeccable integrity." He also thinks hes going to be a pretty good NBA head coach because of the relationships he builds with players and fellow coaches. "Hes a brilliant basketball coach who relates to all kinds of people well and I think he will do an absolutely fantastic job with the talent at hand," Jeff Van Gundy said. "Im so happy for one of the good guys in the league to get this opportunity." Clifford has worked in North Carolina briefly before as an assistant coach for one year at East Carolina. The Bobcats fired Dunlap in April after just one season. Dunlap struggled with the transition from the college game to the NBA and game management. He often butted heads with his veteran players, which is likely one of the reasons the Bobcats decided to go after an experienced NBA assistant like Clifford. Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins said in mid-April he and general manager Rich Cho met with the players and Dunlap before approaching owner Michael Jordan and asking him to make a coaching change. "The change was allowed," Higgins said in April. Higgins said at the time player input was "a part of the process, but not the only indicator." Higgins was asked in April what he wanted in a new coach. "We want to hire a great leader, (and) the player development aspect is still vitally important to us because of our youth," Higgins said. "Obviously you want a fantastic X-and-O coach. Someone who can make our players better, and help us win games." The Bobcats seemed to place an emphasis on finding a defensive-minded coach after finishing near the bottom of the league in most defensive categories last season. Along with the Clifford, the Bobcats interviewed at least five other known candidates for the position. They spoke early on in the process to former Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns coach Alvin Gentry, Suns assistant Elston Turner, Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Nate Tibbetts and Houston Rockets assistant Kelvin Sampson. The Bobcats again considered former Lakers assistant Quin Snyder, now a head coach of a professional team in Russia. Snyder and Jerry Sloan were among the three finalists for the job last year that was given to Dunlap. Getting set to go their separate ways for a short Christmas break, the Raptors coach credited his team for their effort on a seemingly impossible three-game road trip, urging them to build on that success when they get back to work at the end of the week. OTTAWA -- The offensively challenged Buffalo Sabres are expected to get a boost with the return of center Jack Eichel to the lineup when they visit the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Tuesday. The 20-year old star missed the teams first 21 games with a high ankle sprain suffered the day before the season opener. You just want to get back to playing, Eichel told The Buffalo News after practice Monday. Thats what you trained for all summer. You prepared for it, and its tough that the season starts a little bit later for me. Im just excited for it.The Sabres (7-9-5) have lost their last two games while continuing to have troubles putting the puck in the net, averaging a league-low 1.81 goals per game. Eichel, who scored 24 times and added 32 assists as a rookie last season, will likely take a regular shift between wingers Evander Kane and Sam Reinhart. The Senators (14-7-1) are not exactly what the doctor orders for teams will scoring deficiencies these days. Theyre coming off a 2-0 victory in New York against a Rangers team that leads the league with 3.70 goals per game. It was Ottawas fourth win in a row, all with goalie Craig Anderson working between the pipes.Anderson allowed just five goals in the four games to capture the NHLs first star of the week honors for the second time this month. There is a strong chance hell miss Tuesdays game to be with his wife Nicholle, who is battling throat cancer. The Sabres defeated the Senators 2-1 in Ottawa on November 5, when wingers Kyle Okposo and Reinhart scored third period goals. The Senators won 2-1 in Buffalo on Nov. 9 when winger Bobby Ryan scored the decisive goal in a shootout.Along with Andersons sterling play, the Senators have shown a new dedication to playing defense this season. As of Monday, they were third in the league in blocked shots, a stat that pleases coach Guy Boucher to no end. When youve got Erik Karlsson, who is the best offensive defenseman in the world, being No. 1 in shot-blocking in the NHL, you know your team is going in the right direction, said Boucher.                                       LONDON -- The Murray brothers bid to dominate the year-end rankings is still on. Cheap Nike Baseball Jerseys .Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares place in the doubles semifinals at the O2 Arena was confirmed Thursday evening after taking the first set against Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo, in a match they went on to win 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.But they wont even have to hit another ball to finish the season as the No. 1-ranked doubles team, if French duo Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert -- who have already been eliminated -- lose their final round robin match Friday.Which way would they prefer to do it? Dont really care, said Murray, smiling. No, I care. Finish for us tomorrow. Its easier, laughed Soares.Thats true, concurred Jamie.I dont know actually. Im joking, continued the Scots Brazilian partner. So whatever happens happens. We got to do our thing here. before wanting to be No. 1, we want to win the tournament. By that we got to win the semifinals. Thats what were here for. We have to focus on our side. I think its the most important thing. It has been an incredible year for the Murray brothers, with Andy winning a third major at Wimbledon, retaining his Olympics title and ending Djokovics 122-week reign at the top of the singles rankings.Jamie did something in 2016 Andy has never accomplished, however, winning two majors in a single year -- he and Soares lifted both the Australian Open and US Open doubles titles. The job is far from over, though, especially for Andy, who could face a winner-takes-all shootout in Sundays final against Djokovic for the year-end No. 1 singles ranking. It was probably harder for Andy than us because Djokovic was winning everything, Jamie said when reflecting on the season. To get past him was going to take a monumental effort to do that.Doubles was a lot more open, I felt. A lot of the teams very close in level. The French guys kind of dominated for a while, especially the first half of the season. But we won the right tournaments that kept us in the hunt for it. We got a chance this week. Well be doing our best over the weekend to make that happen.Jamie also revealed his father will be coming down from Scotland to watch on what could be an historic weekend for his two sons. The opportunity to have the chance to do it is something special, he continued. Im sure the three of us are going to do our best over the next three or four days to try to be there at the end of it.We get good crowd support. That obviously helps. I would hope that we would be more supported than other players because its in our backyard. Its nice for us to play in London, in the UK, in front of friends, family, our people. A crushing victory, by 246 runs in the second Test, has given India a 1-0 lead with three games to come, and restored their hegemony after a scare in the opening contest in Rajkot. If you take the odds at face value, the series already seems to be in the bag ahead of the third Test in Mohali. India are an ominous 1/14 to seal the deal, with England a distant 22/1 to stage enough of a comeback to turn the scoreline on its head.Nevertheless, weve been here before with England - four years ago in Ahmedabad, when India won the first Test of the four-match series by nine wickets, only for England, inspired by their skipper Alastair Cook, to regroup with victories in Mumbai and Kolkata. Its a much-changed team in 2016 - no Kevin Pietersen for starters, not to mention the spin twins Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar. But aside from aa few culpable dismissals in the first innings, England did not play terribly at Vizag, with arguably nine of their 11 players either matching or exceeding expectations. If so, Bet365 expects England to lean on in-form top three of Cook, Haseeb Hameed and Joe Root for the bulk of their runs - they are all priced between 10/3 and 9/2 to be Englands top scorer.Dont discount the claims of Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali in Englands middle order though. They are both priced at 7/1, and though Bairstow in particular has been coming in low at No.7 in the first two Tests, he is in fine form and could even be due a promotion to No.4 if Ben Duckett, as expected, is given a break from the team. In all, six Heat players scored in double figures. We try to get to the paint and attack, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. Roosters coach Trent Robinson bemoaned his sides inability to go on with things after their early dominance. It was a great start from us in the first 30 minutes, he said.It was disappointing we let them back in before halftime. But the second half was messy right from the start. We played some football. Tottenham are looking to make it to the last 16 of the Europa League for the third straight season, while Fiorentina are unbeaten in their last seven games having won 3-2 at Atalanta on Sunday in Serie A.Team newsSpurs Mousa Dembeles came off at half-time against Palace with a groin injury and is now set to be out forbetween 10 days and two weeks, meaning he is likely to miss the north London derby against Arsenal next month. Nacer Chadli celebrates scoring the opener in Florence Mauricio Pochettino is obviously keen on winning this competition, but what I would have said that this is the one competition they didnt need to go far in. Unlike Liverpool and United, they dont need to win it for a Champions League place because theyre going to be in the top four. All these games are coming thick and fast now and I think theyll put out another strong side, go out to win it in the first half and, even though Fiorentina are a good side, I expect Spurs to come through here.Charlie predicts: 2-0 and Christian Eriksen to score first (40/1 with Sky Bet)BettingTottenham are odds-on with Sky Bet to qualify for the last 16 of the Europa League with Fiorentina 7/4 shots. RIO DE JANEIRO - Andrew Bogut, Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic should maybe all take a leaf out of John Millmans book. The 27-year-old, one of only two Australia players left in the mens singles at the Olympics after day one, has a simple approach to these Games that might perhaps benefit some of his nations better-known athletes.I can [only] speak from my experience and its not an event to miss, Millman said after making Games history by becoming the first man to shut out his opponent, his 6-0, 6-0 victory against Lithuanias Ricardas Berankis coming in just 50 minutes on Saturday. With all the rubbish stuff that goes on in the world, the Olympic Games is the world community coming together to celebrate not just athletes but compassion, friendship and respect for one another. Its humbling walking into a stadium among people from all over the planet. That could easily be taken as a swipe at Kyrgios and Tomic, both of whom have had differences of opinion with the Australian Olympic Committee and made themselves unavailable for the Games. It wasnt, but the implication was that Millman found their decisions strange.Nicks got his whole career ahead of him, he added. Nick and Bernie are not the only athletes who have sat out these Olympics and everyone has reasons for doing so.Theyre good enough players and they have both represented their country in Davis Cup, Im sure they will have a chance to play in the Olympics down the track. How about Australia basketball star Boguts less-than-complimentary tweets about the accommodation in the athletes village, then, maybe Millman shared those sentiments?Nope. There was a bit of smoke and mirrors there, the Brisbane player said. We are used to roughing it a little bit. Ive played my fair share on the Futures tour and we roughed it a lot more than in the village. Ive slept on floors and that sort of thing. Were kind of used to it.All the tennis boys are in the same kind of dorm and village life is good. With all these unbelievabble sports people walking around, you dont get that [elsewhere]. Cheap Vans Shoes Wholesale. It was refreshing to get a positive take from the Australian camp, even if some of the complaints they have made about the facilities have been well founded. It has been unfortunate that theirs have been the loudest voices in the build-up to the Games because it has started to earn them a reputation around Rio for grousing. Even Millman slipped a little when he said having to eat the food in the village was tough. His result was a contrast to those of the other Australian men playing on the first day of the tennis tournament, as Jordan Thompson went down 6-4, 6-2 to Britains Kyle Edmund and Thanasi Kokkinakis lost 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3) to Portugals Gastao Elias. The latter result, which left Millman and Sam Groth in the draw, was tough on 20-year-old Kokkinakis, who hadnt played a match since last October because of a shoulder injury. He may not have enhanced Australian tennis image by getting himself told off by the umpire for quietly saying the F-word, but could probably be forgiven a bit of frustration.I was just hoping to play well and get through the match without an injury on the shoulder, he said after his first-round defeat. It was better than I thought it would beI was limited on some serves, hit a lot of double faults. It was a little bit of a big ask [being thrown back in at the Olympics] but it was my choice. I wanted to be in there and start somewhere. I was going to live with the result whatever happened.Kokkinakis, 20, is talented with a lot of potential but Australia having to rely on him didnt reflect well on the decisions of Kyrgios and Tomic. He was frustrated to go out after raising his game but not being able to sustain it and at least he chimed in with the sentiments of Millman, vowing to get over the defeat and enjoy a bit more of the Games.
